TERROR IN THE AISLES is a film that has had a profound, lasting effect on the way I feel about horror films and some non-horror films that they, for some reason, included. It turned me on to NIGHT HAWKS, VICE SQUAD and one of my all time favorite's PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE. I took it in to my middle school and for some reason did a report on horror films. Everyone cracked up when LINDA BLAIR did the rolled-back-eyes hoochie coochie dance (even my teacher cracked up). I had just started buying Fangoria magazine (CELLAR DWELLER was on the cover) and brought it to school, this movie made me want to seek out more gore films and especially makeup effects people like TOM SAVINI and ROB BOTTIN (This is the first time I saw the clip from JOHN CARPENTER'S THE THING and even THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE ). The way DONALD PLEASANCE and NANCY ALLEN hosted the film, it seemed like an infomercial for the worst nightmare that you could not escape from.
UNK SEZ: Right there with you Eric. Every horror fan should see TERROR IN THE AISLES at least once. I gotta say I used to find the cheesy musical montage near the end nearly unbearable, but now it's almost my favorite part! Due to licensing issues, it's not likely that T.I.T.A. is going to be put on DVD any time soon (if ever) but currently you can watch the entire movie on your PC thanks to THIS GUY. If you have not seen it, hurry up and do so now before it gets yanked. It will certainly bring back some fond memories of the heyday of horror!
Terror in the Aisles was huge! For younger fans who were still trying to catch up with what was current in the genre, Terror in the Aisles was an awesome peek at movies they likely hadn't seen yet. I mean, objectively, it's a pretty poor documentary but the clips killed. Definitely a fondly remembered snap shot of early '80s genre cinema.
thanks for printing my junky letter. What's with that song? Haha it's awesome when i saw the Cat People a few months ago I recognized Lyn Lowery getting bitten by the cat creature from Terror in the aisles.I bought a video copy of it but sadly it snapped."Vice Squad" i could count as a horror movie but "NightHawks" no way jose!
Grape,
Even from the first line of the song "fear is scary and murder is vile…" you know that song is going to be crap. It's so sad that now I love it and want to own it. "…the world is sick, I'm used to it, wouldn't you agreeeeeeeee" ugh,…awful… it rules!
I love watching Terror in the Aisles! I remember trying to identify all the movie clips unsuccessfully. I think I mentioned recently that Vice Squad was one of the movies I couldn’t identify. It is a good movie to use when deciding what movies to add to your Netflix queue (Kindertrauma is also a valuable tool for that purpose).  Aren’t there different versions of Terror in the Aisles? Like for T.V. they took out graphic stuff and added clips from older sci-fi and horror movies? On the other hand, perhaps I just imagined that.
Mickster, you are correct as usual! I found this on Imdb:
"The TV network version has additional film clips added for network viewing as well as replacing violent clips from other films. The additional film clips are from the movies: The Legacy (1978), Firestarter (1984), Frenzy (1972), The Car (1977), Ghost Breakers (1940), The Funhouse (1981), This Island Earth (1953), The Creature From the Black Lagoon (1951), The Incredible Shrinking Man (1955), King Kong vs. Godzilla (1963), Tarantula (1955), The Deadly Mantis (1957) and Fahrenheit 451 (1966)."
I remember the tv version as well that's another people don't have to deal with now tv verisons of movies specifically done for broadcast(the tv version of "Videodrome" comes to mind) where there was a weird painting in Bianca Oblivion's wreck room with James Woods and Debra Harry.
This is one of those movies that I heard OTHER kids rave about in elemntary school and when I finally saw it as a teenager I was like "Wow-this sucks!" Hahaha. I remember I went to a friends house and she had TERROR IN THE AISLES and DEBBIE DUZ DALLAS….and I opted to watch TERROR IN THE AISLES (I'm such a GOOD Girl!) But, Man , was it disappointing….like when you tune into a fresh new episode of your favorite TV sereis just to find out that it's a Clip Show!
But – on the other hand – I'm sure if I watched it NOW I would be able to identify at elast 95% of the clips on there. Not to toot my own horn but BEEP BEEP!
