I'm pretty addicted to Kindertrauma, someone on another website linked it to me and it's my fourth day in a row reading as much as I can!
At the tender age of seventeen, I'm probably one of the youngest readers, but I do have a Traumafession.
It has to be somewhere in the mid-to-late ‘90s, I think I was watching a movie with my older male cousins at my grandmother's house. I can't remember much, but what I remember was being unable to sleep for a very long time after seeing it.
It was something about three or four or even two boys who discovered an underground cavern, maybe there was a caveman in it, maybe there wasn't, I forget, but apparently discovering the cavern released some sort of black ooze that made you decay or get sick or something AWFUL. I was so scared of the black ooze!
I hope you can help me with just this little bit.
UPDATE: NAME THAT TRAUMA SOLVED! Kudos to reader Chris for solving it with THE X-FILES: FIGHT THE FUTURE (1998).
Could this be Dean Koontz's "Phantoms" from 1998?
Sounds like the beginning of X-Files: Fight the Future to me. 1 boy falls into a hole while 2 others watch from above as black gook leaks from the ground, into his body, and makes his eyes turn black. Bonus points for a caveman fighting an alien in the opening scene.
Hope that helps. 🙂
And Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms, yo.
Ah, beat to it! It's definitely the X-Files movie!
That sounds like an episode of The X-Files. The black oil kept showing up a lot and it basically did an Invasion Of The Body Snatchers bit on the people it touched. I remember one that involved the black oil and some boys in Russia found it – or a victim of it.
And of course the answer would be posted before I could post it. Teach me to open this and not refresh before replying.
Grrr…one of the few traumafessions that I knew right away and me, an X-Files fan of the highest order not first in line to answer. I feel like I need to turn in my replica FBI badge. ***Shameless self-promotion following*** I got to play one of about 50 FBI agents in the second X-Files movie which was partially shot about 20 minute from me. Fantastic time on set for about 3 weeks all together. That's all…sorry…just feel the bizarre need to mention this anytime the X-files pops up. *closes mouth and sits on hands…*
Oh man sob! I'm so jealous. I LOVE the X Files and really loved the second movie. Truly I did. How exciting for you. I met Gillian Anderson briefly at one of her few X Files convention appearances (remember those cons?) and she was SO nice and even more beautiful in person.
Amanda – Yes, it was ridiculously fun for an X-Files fan (even shooting in the middle of the night in the freezing cold and snow). Everyone was super nice and Billy Connolly had us literally crying with laughter between takes. Our big long "FBI line" even ended up on the DVD cover and one of the two movie posters. Don't do much acting work but was glad to pick that up.
Movie wasn't too well received but I enjoyed it for what it was. I'm just rewatching all the seasons again and am hoping they find a way to get a third movie done to tie up the mythology arc.
After poking around on IMDB, I read the X-Files movie's synopsis, and yes, that's exactly what I remember, thanks Chris! And good try, Unk Lance. D:
