Our very special guest this Funhouse is everybody's pal THE MIKE, mastermind of the one of a kind FROM MIDNIGHT, WITH LOVE! His royal MIKEness has provided us with some exceptionally dark and scary images to identify today but worry not gentle ones, for he is on hand to dish out the hints if you should stumble about! Good luck to you all and make sure you show your appreciation for THE MIKE by dropping by his spectacular homestead HERE!
Dang, these are toughies! All I've got is #4… Stir of Echoes.
Chris is right on with Stir of Echoes to get us started!
Am I absolutely insane for thinking #6 might be The Doctor and the Devils?
Not insane at all! Walter picks up The Doctor and The Devils, one of three movies shown with acting ties to James Bond!
To James Bond films, actually.
It should be noted that I rarely go anywhere without the likes of John Carpenter, Christopher Lee, Boris Karloff, and Brian De Palma on my mind.
Total guesses, but my memories stirred and this was the result:
9 Dressed to Kill?
3 Rear Window?
Ah! As much as I love Rear Window, it did not make the cut…but a film that's tied to a Hitchcock film did!
And 9 is not Dressed to Kill, though you're right to assume De Palma….
I just realized I made a mistake above, number 9 is not De Palma! Number 8 is! (Sorry, I'm a Funhouse rookie!)
Some Hints to keep us rolling….
1 – There's a poster for Carpenter's Halloween on the wall, though he has nothing to do with the film.
2 – Those birds might look a little more familiar in black and white…
3 – A Hammer film, but there's no sign of Dracula anywhere about!
4- Stir of Echoes
5 – Shares a co-star with Number 6, which is….
6 – The Doctor and the Devils
7 – Made for TV by one heckuva director!
8 – De Palma loves having people peep, doesn't he?
9 – Slasher that shares a name with an '80s rock song I love!
10 – One of my favorite movies about movies ever made, features footage from another movie its star made.
Jeesh the Mike you're always making things so tough!
Would #2 perhaps be Psycho II?
Oh and I think #8 is Sisters
and guess that #7 is Salems Lot? Maybs?
Andre, you're almost right on 2…
And dead on on 8 – Sisters! Unfortunately, no to the Salem's Lot.
So, we've got…..
1 – I'm telling y'all, that Halloween poster plays a part….
2 – Not quite Psycho 2
3 – Hammer with Chris Lee!
4 – Stir of Echoes
5 – Shares a co-star with No. 6!
6 – The Doctor and the Devils
7 – Made for TV by a fine director.
8 – Sisters
9 – 80s slasher with song name
10 – Movie about movies featuring another movie from its star.
Want to preface with the fact that I am not privy to the answers… Unk never tells me anything about the Funhouse.
That said, I'm going with Someone’s Watching Me! for #7 & Every Rose Has Its Thorn for #9 (ok, I know that's not a real movie… but it should be!)
Is #2 Pyscho III?
Ha! I'd so watch Every Rose Has Its Thorn the movie!
And #7 is Someone's Watching Me!, from the great John Carpenter!
1 – References no less than Marilyn Monroe and Jimmy Cagney, to name a few.
2 – Not Psycho II.
3 – I don't know why, but Hammer films seem to always have the hero looking out a door for something.
4 – Stir of Echoes, painted black by Chris!
5 – Our hero runs to save a family member!
6 – The Doctor and the Devils are identified by Walter Paisely!
7 – Aunt John always feels like Someone's Watching Me!
8 – Sisters, as recognized by Andre (and Dominique) Dumas!
9 – A little more up tempo than Every Rose Has Its Thorn. Featuring a three named actress who's the daughter of an actor!
10 – This one's slightly unseen, but I'm sure someone can get a bullseye on it!
is number 1 Fade to Black???????
And Aunt John picks up from Andre's assist! Jeff Fahey's overalls star in Psycho III!
1 –
2 – Psycho III
3 –
4 – Stir of Echoes
5 –
6 – The Doctor and The Devils
7 – Someone's Watching Me!
8 – Sisters
9 –
10 –
Eugeniepetite is right on with Fade To Black for Number 1!
Man, I wish I didn't have the answers today! I wanna guess on these too.
If I may though, I have an extra hint for #9 and it's "Cruise Director"
Alright, more hints!
3 – Based on an acclaimed novel, and adapted for Hammer by THE Richard Matheson!
5 – Not a fan of Matheson? How bout an adaptation by THE Ray Bradbury?
9 – Well, nobody adapted this one….but it's safe to say that that it was inspired by an Audrey Hepburn film!
10 – The feature debut of an acclaimed director, and his only flirtation with horror. Based on a real-life killing spree!
Just from the clue could 1 be fade to black?
arrgh late…
How bout 10 targets
Well, I didn't expect this to go into the lunch hour…More hints!
3 – The title was changed for American audiences, because distributors thought that the title sounded too much like a western.
5 – Both Steven Spielberg and David Lean were asked to direct this film by Bradbury!
9 – A movie theater scene features a poster for Dawn of the Dead, because Tom Savini worked on the film!
10 – In a spoof of the star's iconic image, he at one point is startled by his own reflection in a mirror!
Yes! Jimbo comes in with the save on Targets at #10!
1- Fade to Black
2 – Psycho III
3 –
4 – Stir of Echoes
5 –
6 – The Doctor and The Devils
7 – Someone’s Watching Me!
8 – Sisters
9 –
10 – Targets
I've taken a particular interest in getting #9 solved!
Poster tag line…
"Sorry, your party is dead."
I know, Unk! It seems many are blind and deaf to this one!
And I noticed after sending you images that #5 was just in the Funhouse a couple of weeks ago! My bad there!
When I saw #3, I thought Invasion of the Bodysnacthers? Is it Omega Man based off I Am Legend?
Wild guess 5-Something Wicked This Way Comes?
is 9. eyes of a stranger?
Yes! That's trusty old Jason Robards rushing to Darks Carnival in Something Wicked This Way Comes in #5!
Annnnddd….magired nails #9 – Eyes of a Stranger, featuring a young Jennifer Jason Leigh!
All that leaves is #3, Hammer's adaptation by Richard Matheson but not necessarily OF Richard Matheson!
Mike,
I almost put #3 in my Satan's Unsung post till I found out it was from 1968! Even though it was a big hit in England apparently it didn't do too well in the states.
is 3 devil rides out?
Magired Saves the Day !!!
I thought I was going to miss the end of this Funhouse cuz I have to catch a bus to NY soon!
(Me and AJ are going to see PEE WEE HERMAN this weekend!!! )

Sorry about all the explanation points!!!!! but my inner voice is VERY Kermit the Frog!
Well, it's got to be The Devil Rides Out.
Oops, too late.
Yes, The Devil Rides Out it is!
Many thanks to everyone for playing, and thanks to Unk and AJ for having me!
