My question is about a T.V. movie that aired in the U.S. sometime between '85-'89. A group of male criminals in Halloween costumes (a Santa Claus, a bird of some sort, maybe a turtle) are hiding out or digging in a tunnel and then going after people. I vaguely remember them ringing someone's door bell then killing them. It is night when they are running around and I think there is snow on the ground. If someone can solve this they are amazing!
Thanks,
Jackie
AUNT JOHN SEZ: Jackie, unless there is another movie with hardened criminals decked out in costumes, I am pretty sure you are thinking of the Australian export FORTRESS which played ad nauseum on basic cable in the mid-to-late '80s.
This one pops up a lot, does it not? There arte about ten movies that everyone has seen but no one can remember the names of anbd this is one of them!
I remember B.C. (before cable) this used to pop up on Channel 11 alot. One day my friend Risa tryed to make me watch it (we were probably about ten at the time) and while she was trying to really get into the creepy vibe I just kep laughing at how silly those masks looked! Im sure being abducted and taken hostage with the thgreat of rape, death or BOTH lingering in the air but somehow when the guy doin it to you has on a mask that makes him look like Donald Duck as terrified as Id be in a situation like that I STILL think Id have a hard time keepin a straight face!
Ive nevr seen the whole movie (Risa called me a "sik fuk" and changed the channel). NETFLIX here I come!
A little bit of trivia, but the man who is under the Dabby Duck mask is none other than Vernon Wells. Otherwise known as the mohawked Wez from ROAD WARRIORS and Cpt Bennet from COMMANDO.
@Morbid – well well, you learn something new every day…. Thanks!
This was a definite trauma for me. We were lucky enough to have cable in our house (which was odd considering we couldn't afford much us). But thank god for priorities.
Not only was I around 11 or 12 when it came out, but knowing it was based on a true story AND having a irrational fear of being abducted only added to the horror. Of course there was the obvious terrifying Father Christmas and Dabby Duck, but I remember thinking there was no way I could have escaped through that cave when they had to swim underwater to get to the other side. I would have been one drowned Jergy.
wow, the internet sure has ruined a lot of "based on a true story" movies, hasnt it? After watching FORTRESS last night I went on WIKIPEDIA to see exactly how much of what happened in the movie had happened in real life. The answer? Not MUCH!
I loved watching this on TV as a kid… the other movie that I loved movie from that era was 'Blackout', also made for HBO.
Well for "hardened criminals decked out in costumes", there's also "Quick Change", which is unsettling in its own way.
