My mom used to make me watch ELVIRA: MISTRESS OF THE DARK when I was a kid. So I often remember bits and pieces of movies but not the titles or anything, and it drives me crazy!
All I can remember of this one is it had something to do with a man's hand that had been cut off. The main scene I can remember is the heroine, a woman with long dark hair and in a beautiful old-fashioned gown, was standing in front of a portrait of the owner of the hand. As she stands there a spectral hand appears around her throat and begins to strangle her.
I also vaguely remember a scene where the hand is running along the grass on its fingers.
Movie was in color. Had to have been filmed late '60s/early 7'0s. I think it was English – or at least set in England.
Maybe not.
It could've taken place just after the American Civil War.
And Now the Screaming Starts (1973)Â ?
Good call sensational Senski!Â
I have a hazy memory of seeing that shot of the hand crawling on the hardwood floor by the railing in a TV promo circa 1982-83…I roughly know the year because I'm sure I saw it on TV in the house in which I was living at that time. I'd forgotten it (or blocked it out) but seeing that trailer brought it back!
Kindertraumas beget kindertraumas!
I'm probably wrong but what about this movie.

It was the 1st thing that came to mind.
Sorry I took so long to reply, I went on a trip because my birthday was September 8th.
While those movies have the same theme, I know neither are the right ones. The hand was more spectral – the painting/strangling scene involved the hand slowly forming out of thin air around the woman's throat. She was wearing a period era dress – for some reason when I think of it I think sort of Gone With The Wind but not as many hoops type.
And the more I think about it, the more I'm sure that at least in that one scene, the hand was encased in a glove. Though when it was running – and it was running – across the lawn on it's fingertips it might've been bare. I'm pretty sure the hand belonged to a solider who lost it in a battle. But remember, my memories are hazy. I could be confusing it with a lot of other Elvira movies I was forced to watch.
(And yet to this day I can clearly remember their really bad musical number when Elvira was suppose to be in 3D about how they were going to crawl out of our tv screens.)
I know it's been a year…but could it be Demonoid? A hand in a case and has flashes of a demon throughout the movie.
