I think we should all break out of prison today and watch the Canadian dance epic HEAVENLY BODIES (1984). The powers that be won't let me embed it so you'll have to view it HERE.
Don't worry you're not cheating on horror movies too much because HEAVENLY BODIES stars MY BLOODY VALENTINE's CYNTHIA DALE and HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME's RICHARD REBIERE. In fact, it was even directed by the guy who played Virginia "Ginnny" Wainwright's dad (LAWRENCE DANE)! After your life has been transformed by HEAVENLY BODIES make sure you "like" its sparkly Facebook page HERE!
it actually seems like a horror movie for a sec there when they show that sweaty female body builder in the gym!
thanks for pointing this out unk! i'll never forgive you.
I'm making Heavenly Bodies an honorary horror movie even though sadly nobody dies in it. I was able to find the soundtrack on vinyl for a dollar and that made me watch the movie again and then again and again and it became a tragic downward spiral. I used to think HB was a Flashdance rip-off but now I like it better than Flashdance.
My favorite scene is the news report. It's so funny to me. I have no idea why.
ok – you know what's really scary? after i watched it i wanted to immed watch it again. i made myself watch something else – but man im gonna.
i really just loved all the emphasis on the stupid moves. like the tryouts that were being filmed with the shoulder tapper giving girls the boot here and there. there was nothing spectacular going on there AT ALL. it was hilarious. then the big solo number the main chick does in the empty studio on the giant circle that is then applauded by the construction guys (did i really just type that??) and of course the exercise-off at then end where the contestants drop like flies due to what appears to be hang nails and stubbed toes. and oh my god i absolutely loved watching her swab her scratch with bactine while the dramatic music told me how horrible that injury was! and the announcer at the exercise-off who kept telling us how much pain she was in and what a trouper she was being and how obv it was that the competition with the one remaining blonde woman was so much more than just over who could exercise the longest! oh the drama!!!!!!!
god that movie killed me
oh yeah and that soundtrack is just way way way too much!
Haha, that competition at the end is amazing when they are all falling apart and exhausted. It's so insane that Samantha Blair tells no one she was assaulted and thrown into a coffee table! She's such a martyr! Haha
That Cynthia Dale really went for the gusto in that movie. Man, that "Heaven" scene is bonkers. It's too good to be true.
Oh and I forgot the bit where she calls out the bad guy on live TV! Incredible. Incredible. Incredible.
Now i'm watching it again.
ha!!! my fave dance moves in this scene are the "my hand is really hot" move and the "riding the camera lift with no one there to operate it" move
You just pointed out my two favorite moves!
I didn't know what to call "my hand is really hot" ! I was thinking it was "I just touched a cobweb and now it's stuck on my hand!" or "somebody stole my hand puppet, hurry put it back on my hand!" but my "my hand is really hot" is perfect.
And the ghost crane!
and the phantom wind machine!
ha! ghost crane! that's great. and yeah phantom wind machine was awesome!
i think i need to gif "my hand is really hot"
Wow, what a banger of a tune in the trailer! Really nice cinematography too. I'm definitely watching this, thanks Unk.
