Back in the shrouded past, before the formulas of TV were set, HBO had Short Cuts. It was a short film series acting as interstitial material between the movies. Amongst the shorts was one of the earliest sources of my nighmare fuel…Flesh Eating Film Reels!
S. S. Wilson went on to co-create Short Circuit and Tremors. You can kind of see things like those coming from the mind that created this short.
This sounds familiar. Wasn't this the subject of a Name That Trauma?
Wow, I remember this one! I first saw this when I was around 12 years old, and it was only within the last 5 years or so I found out the title.
I found this more amusing than scary, but with every "Short Take" on late night HBO, I hoped it would be this one, or "Hardware Wars" or "Closet Cases of the Nerd Kind".
As a heads up, it is my understanding that if you want this on DVD, it's available as a special feature on the Tremors 4 DVD.
Or you could just, you know, watch it on YouTube.
Thanks for the memory!
Pretty cool that the "rerecording" was done by the now-legendary sound effects creator Ben Burtt! (Body Snatchers '78, E.T., Star Wars, WALL-E)
